How do you know you have gum problem such as periodontal disease (periodontitis)? Gum diseases are noticeable when they began surfacing to your mouth. The first thing that you will feel is the soreness in your mouth. Looking at the mirror your gums are swollen and feels tender to touch. Your gums become too sensitive, as a result you can no longer eat and drink properly because of the excruciating pain that you are feeling in your mouth. Secondly, your gums bleed. Everytime you brush your teeth and gargle anti-septic mouthwash your gums start to bleed. This is due to the sensitivity of your gums.
Thirdly, you have persistent bad breath. You will notice that people you know are avoiding you. This is due to bad odor every time you open your mouth. This can be very frustrating and depressing on your part. No matter how many times you brush your teeth the odor is still there. There is a big possibility that people who noticed your condition will talk behind your back.
Fourth symptom of periodontal disease is receding gums. Looking at the mirror you will see the roots of your teeth are now exposed. Moreover, if receding gums worsen, there is a big tendency that you will lose your teeth. Thus, this can be very embarrassing on your part. All these are signs and symptoms of periodontitis or periodontal disease.
You don’t have to worry though because there is available periodontal disease treatment. Two of the traditional ways of treating periodontitis are scaling and root planing. The process involves thorough cleaning of your teeth and gums. The procedure is old fashion; however, it is very effective. Moreover, if your periodontitis has gone severe, then these two are used as an initial procedure for surgery.
However, if you undergo periodontitis treatment there is a great possibility that you will face post surgery experience; most of the time it is a painful or upsetting experience for patients. This is the reason why most professional dentist diagnoses the gum disease thoroughly before recommending any surgery.
Therefore, it is best to take good care of your teeth while it is still healthy. Furthermore, it would greatly help if you practice brushing your teeth at least twice a day. It stops the progression of bad bacteria in your mouth. It is also advisable that you schedule a regular visit with a professional dentist.
